Dear St. Matthew Families,

This continues to be an exceedingly difficult year for everyone and unfortunately there is still no end in sight. Our hockey season has been underwhelming so far, as most teams were only able to get in a couple of games. However, with the additional restrictions that have gone into place, we are hopeful that the season will resume in the New Year. Hockey Edmonton is planning for various scenarios and is exploring the possibility of extending the hockey season into the spring.

I know that hockey fees are expensive and I am sure many members are wondering about refunds should the season be officially cancelled. Unfortunately, the registration fees that the club charges are passed on to KC and then to Hockey Edmonton. This amount is paid in September and finalized with the creation of team rosters (hard cards) on November 15th. Since these registration amounts were already paid, we need to wait for decisions from Hockey Edmonton before we can discuss potential prorated refunds for the hockey season. I am optimistic that there will still be more hockey to be played this season. At the moment the earliest we can start is January 12th.

With the recent closure of the bingo halls, our volunteer bingos are currently on hold. While many of our families have already completed their mandatory bingos, others still have them scheduled for later in the season. As we receive more information, our board will determine the fairest way to handle the volunteer commitments. I am sure everyone can appreciate this is a year unlike any other in the 51 years of St. Matthew Hockey and Sports Club.

Please stay safe and healthy. Have a wonderful socially distanced holiday season and best wishes to you all in 2021.
